Outpatient Physical Therapy Services

Baptist Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Clinic offers outpatient physical therapy services at two convenient locations – across the street from Baptist Carroll County at 485 R.B. Wilson Drive and 22700 Highway 22 in McKenzie, Tennessee. Both locations are staffed by a team of highly skilled therapists who have doctorate-level training and certified physical therapy assistants. Our physical therapy program uses exercise along with modalities of movement to decrease pain, increase range of motion, build strength and improve function for numerous conditions.

We create individualized treatment plans for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Sports injuries
  • Joint replacements
  • Stroke recovery
  • Recovery following orthopedic surgery
  • Back and neck pain
  • Fibromyalgia

Some of the diagnoses that qualify for occupational therapy include the following:

  • Stroke
  • Fractures
  • Joint replacements
  • Generalized weakness
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Speech Therapy

The speech-language pathologists at Baptist Carroll County work with patients to help them speak clearly, communicate more effectively, and eat and drink safely. After a thorough evaluation, an individualized treatment plan is developed to help patients meet their goals. Modified barium swallow studies performed by a radiologist are also available.

Speech therapy can help with:

  • Swallowing difficulty
  • Speech deficits
  • Cognitive deficits
  • Memory loss

Baptist Carroll County also offers the VitalStim Therapy System, a specialized therapy used to treat patients with dysphagia (difficulty swallowing). The VitalStim device uses electrical impulses to re-educate swallowing muscles by stimulating them to contract and move, thereby preventing muscle atrophy and improving local blood circulation. This device is useful for a variety of conditions in patients of all ages.

Massage Therapy

Therapeutic massage techniques help reduce muscle guarding and pain to improve overall health and function. Baptist’s physical therapy team offers massage therapy by appointment in 15-minute, 30-minute and one-hour sessions with a licensed massage therapist.

Massage therapy can help patients who have:

  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Headaches
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Sinus congestion

No physician referral is needed. Call 731-986-7365 to schedule an appointment or for more information.

Aquatic Therapy

Baptist Carroll County’s aquatic therapy program combines the skills of our therapists with the beneficial effects of warm water to help you achieve your full rehabilitation potential.

Aquatic therapy can be an ideal complement to land-based therapy, especially for patients who have difficulty with exercise as a result of pain, poor endurance, recent surgery, or acute or chronic conditions. The warm water significantly decreases weight-bearing stress, relieving joint and spinal compression and discomfort. As treatment progresses, aquatic therapy can be transitioned to a more dynamic traditional rehab program that can be continued at home.

A wide variety of people can benefit from this service, including those with:

  • Sports injuries
  • Neurological conditions
  • Low back, neck and spinal disorders
  • Pain and/or edema management
  • Arthritis/Degenerative joint disease
  • Gait and balance disorders

A physical therapist will perform a thorough evaluation during your first visit and develop an individualized aquatic plan to help meet your needs and goals

Balance/Vestibular Rehab Program

The staff at Baptist Rehabilitation is trained in specialized treatment techniques to alleviate symptoms associated with many vestibular disorders (inner ear/vertigo). Patients who have the following conditions can benefit from Baptist Rehabilitation’s balance/vestibular program:

  • Vestibular neuronitis or hyperfunction
  • Labyrinthitis, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
  • Cervical vertigo, or cervicogenic dizziness
  • Migraine-associated vertigo
  • Post-concussion syndrome

Baptist Rehabilitation also offers testing to determine falls risk and training to correct deficits that can lead to a fall.
