Now the hospital site will become home to the UT-Baptist Research Park, a state-of-the-art biotech facility. Although its physical buildings no longer exist, the hospital will live on in the hearts of the many former patients, physicians, employees and visitors whose lives were touched by the facility that served the Mid-South for 88 years. It also lives on through Baptist's continued focus on our mission and serving the community.

The new UT-Baptist Research Park will take about 10 years to build and will be completed in six phases. When finished, the entire development will provide $250 million in annual salaries for 5,000 new jobs, and it will have a $2 billion annual economic impact on the city.

At one time, Baptist Medical Center was the largest private hospital in the world and had 2,000 beds. People from throughout the Mid-South area and beyond sought care at the hospital, including Elvis Presley, Archie Manning and other celebrities. Baptist Medical Center also was home to many medical and industry firsts, including being the first hospital in the country to operate a physicians’ office building and the first hospital in the country to install automatic elevators.
