Maternity Services at Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women

A pregnant woman receives maternity services at Baptist Women’s Hospital

Beautiful Beginnings

Baptist has been delivering babies for a century, and we've developed unique maternity programs and childbirth services to make your experience an easy and memorable one, so you can focus on your new baby and family when that special time comes.

Start with our Beautiful Beginnings program by meeting with us sometime between the 15th and 20th week of your pregnancy. Our highly skilled nurses and maternity coordinators work to ensure your questions and/or concerns are addressed anytime throughout your pregnancy—from labor and delivery to postpartum.

You are welcome to connect with our Maternity Care Coordinator for a virtual narrated tour of our facility or to discuss resources and classes. We have options for childbirth classes and postpartum assistance for after delivery.  Please call or email: 901-227-9873 or [email protected].

The Region's High-risk Delivery Referral Center

We are proud to be the Mid-South’s leading high-risk delivery referral center. We offer laboring patients and their birthing partner and/or family with:

  • 24-hour maternity ambulance entrance
  • 26 labor and delivery suites
  • 10 obstetrical assessment beds in our maternity emergency triage
  • 40 newborn intensive care unit  (NICU) beds with a micropreemie unit and continuing care unit with room in capabilities
  • 24/7 in-house OB/GYN physician
  • 24/7 in-house neonatologist

Mother/Baby Unit

The 48-bed Mother/Baby Unit provides a safe, family-centered environment with plenty of room for new moms and families to stay together. A security system is in place that alerts hospital staff if anything unusual occurs.

Breastfeeding

Resources are available to help you have a successful Breastfeeding experience. Certified lactation consultants and educators are available to you during your stay to help you get a good start. After discharge, you can access our Warm Line for personal assistance by calling 901-227-9421. Moms who attend our free “Moms Groups” can also get assistance from Nurse Educators.

Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

At the NICU, we treat babies who are born premature or have complications, such as heart defects or underdeveloped lungs. More than 10% of all babies born at the Women's Hospital are cared for in the NICU. The dedicated staff of nurses, neonatologists and pediatric sub-specialists are passionate about the quality, education and development of every baby. The continuing care unit provides parents with additional training before their babies go home.

Many parents with babies in the NICU cannot afford the highly specialized care, so contributions are especially important for this unit. For more information about how you can contribute to the NICU, contact the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation at 901-227-7123.

The NICU Brag Book

Having a newborn in the NICU can be a trying, worrisome and sometimes isolating experience for most families. We’ve found that families take encouragement and reassurance from stories about others’ experiences. The NICU Brag Book is a way for you to share your story to inspire and give hope to families who may be new to the experience. It also allows you to express your gratitude to the doctors, nurses and support staff who cared for you and your child. Please take a moment and submit your story and pictures.

Birthing and Parenting Classes

In additional to our medical services, Baptist Women's Hospital offers parenting and labor classes to help make every new beginning beautiful. We are pleased to be able to provide these classes and hope that you will find them helpful.

Saturday Child Birthing Class

Saturday Child birth class is once a month and is taught by our Nurse Educators. This is a 9am to 3pm class that covers the following topics: Labor & Delivery, Infant Care & Safety, New Mom Care, Feeding your baby and Breastfeeding as well as Postpartum support.

Online Childbirth Class

The online class allows you to access class information on your schedule and in the comfort of your own home. You will read the materials and watch short videos as part of the learning portion of class. This program is also offered in a variety of languages and covers the same topics as the in person Saturday class.

To sign up for either option, please call our Maternity Care Coordinator at [email protected] or 901-227-9873.
