Ventricular Assist Device (VAD)

About Our VAD Program

A ventricular assist device (VAD) is a battery-operated, mechanical pump-type device that is surgically implanted to treat end-stage heart failure. It helps maintain the pumping ability of a heart that cannot effectively work on its own. Baptist has implanted over 30 VAD's as Destination Therapy and over 60 VAD's as Bridge to Transplant or Bridge to Recovery. Baptist's current VAD survival rate from implant to one year or transplant is above national average.
