This page is intended to inform patients, visitors, employees and physicians about changes in vehicle traffic patterns and the easiest ways to navigate the Baptist Memphis/Baptist Women's Hospital campus during the Walnut Grove Road widening project.

Why is the construction happening?
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the city of Memphis have begun construction to revamp a one-mile stretch of Walnut Grove, from the bridge over I-240 to the bridge over the Wolf River at Shelby Farms. The project will include replacing the two bridges, widening the basic footprint of the road to eight lanes and creating a grade-separated interchange at Humphreys Boulevard so that traffic on Walnut Grove will not have to stop for a traffic light. The construction will take approximately three years to complete and will be implemented in four phases.

What is Baptist doing?
Baptist representatives have been working with TDOT, the city of Memphis and the construction and engineering companies involved to ensure that we are kept up-to-date at all times. Throughout the construction process, we will continue to provide the high-quality care and personal service that you expect. Also, parking at the hospitals will not be reduced or changed at any time throughout the project.

Lane closures
Due to the construction project, some periodic lane closures are expected. As the project is in the beginning stages, the lane closures will be limited in duration and will not occur during peak traffic time. Once Baptist is notified of permanent lane closures and traffic delays, we will relay that information as soon as possible.
