Sharon Beth Larson, DO

Dr. Sharon Beth Larson is a cardiothoracic surgeon and the surgical director of the Cardiac Transplant, Mechanical Circulatory Support, and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) programs at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Her medical interests include heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and adult cardiac surgery. Dr. Larson specializes in adult cardiovascular surgery, including coronary artery revascularization, open and transcatheter heart valve repair and replacement, aortic aneurysm and dissection repair, surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation, resection of cardiac tumors, and cardiac transplant. She is the first female recipient of the Lillehei Surgical Society Richard C. Lillehei and Earl Bakken Prize awarded, to her at the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Annual Meeting in 2015. She joined Baptist Medical Group in 2023.

What can a patient expect when they have you as a doctor?

My patients will have my entire focus and attention. They deserve and will receive my absolute best effort, patience, and care. I aspire to having my patients and their loved ones feel as certain and confident about their surgical plan as I do.

What is the most important factor in a doctor patient relationship and why?

A patient in need allows me to fulfill my life's purpose. I do not take this for granted. I honor the role of the patient in our relationship by communicating with honesty and transparency and rely on the mutual respect of doctor and patient to optimize the pathway forward to restored health.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy when you're not working?

I enjoy yoga, walking, reading, visiting art museums and botanical gardens, attending sporting events and live music performances, and spending time with family.

What about your line of work do you find the most rewarding and why?

A patient who is able to experience a restored and improved quality of life after surgical intervention is the most rewarding part of my work.
