Marion Boyd Gillespie, MD

Dr. Gillespie is Professor and Chair of the UTHSC Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. His career has been dedicated to improving the lives of patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea, breathing and airway disorders, and tumors and related disorders of the head and neck. He is a thought-leader in the surgical management of obstructive sleep apnea and snoring, and is currently involved in three novel trials of new devices for the management of obstructive sleep apnea. He joined Baptist Medical Group in 2021.

What can a patient expect when they have you as a doctor?

My patients can expect patient-focused care offering the latest in evidence-based medical and surgical therapies for disorders of the ear, nose, and throat.

What is the most important factor in a doctor patient relationship and why?

The surgeon must offer to the patient the treatment and care that they would want for themselves or their own family members. This will create a foundation of trust between the surgeon and patient.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy when you're not working?

I enjoy travel, reading history, and playing tennis and golf.

What about your line of work do you find the most rewarding and why?

Developing lasting relationships with patients and their families that go beyond the management of a particular condition or disease.
