Employee Profile: Lisa Riley

Nurse educator believes in shining Christ’s light

Summary

Lisa Riley has been part of the Baptist Memorial Health Care family for more than 16 years. As an advanced nurse clinician at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, she educates all the nursing and ancillary staff for the hospital’s emergency department. Riley also conducts new hire orientation and fills in on the floor when needed.

Nursing is a second career for Riley who worked as an airline customer service agent for eight years. When the airline industry began changing after 9/11, she decided to follow her longtime dream of becoming a nurse and enrolled in nursing school.

“I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, to be there on their hardest days and share Christ’s light. We all need to be seen and heard, and I wanted to connect with patients and make them feel loved.”

Baptist DeSoto is where Riley’s own family and loved ones turn when they need hospital care, and she is grateful to serve in her community.

“I love that the mission statement is the three-fold ministry of Christ. I feel supported and have a wonderful manager who puts a priority on work-life balance. Working here has provided many opportunities for growth, and I’ve gotten to try different things. This is my community, and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
