Union County’s Only Obstetrics Emergency Department

Baptist Union County’s obstetric emergency department is staffed by board-certified OB/GYN doctors and highly trained nurses 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We can treat any emergency that is pregnancy or post-partum related and monitor signs of labor progress until your OB/GYN can arrive. Our OB emergency department gives expectant mothers added reassurance that they and their child will receive immediate, comprehensive care, even if they don’t have a regular OB/GYN or prenatal care.

Maternity & Childbirth

Labor, Delivery, and Recovery (LDR) Rooms

Each of our 10 private LDR rooms is designed to provide a comfortable, intimate setting,* featuring a Panda warmer to keep the baby warm, yet easily accessible. The labor and delivery unit, as well as the nursery, features an advanced infant security system.

Postpartum Unit and Level II Nursery

The 18-bed postpartum unit offers comfortable rooms with private baths and couches for family. Our Level II nursery is equipped for newborns with special needs for enhanced care and treatment.

Childbirth and Breastfeeding Programs

Prepared childbirth classes provide education and support for expectant parents, covering relaxation techniques, the labor process, anesthesia and newborn care. Our certified lactation specialists offer breastfeeding support and our professional staff can also assist new moms with their breastfeeding questions after delivery.

Baby-Friendly Designation

Baptist Union County has received the designation of being a Baby Friendly^® hospital. This prestigious international award recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies.

The honor was bestowed by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc., the U.S. authority for the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The criteria for the designation is based on Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and are designed to set the standards for the best possible breastfeeding support for mother and infant in the maternity setting, ensuring high-quality care in this critical area of mother/baby care.

The Baby-Friendly designation is for a period of five years. Each year, Baptist Union County will report statistics related to the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding to achieve re-designation.

Wound Care Center

We specialize in the treatment of diabetic ulcers, arterial ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, thermal/chemical burns, crush injuries and many other wounds. Therapies may include compression, growth factors, vacuum assisted closure and off-loading. Patients and family members are given instructions about correct wound care and the prevention of new injuries.

Ostomy Support Group

Living with an ostomy may require adjustments to some daily activities, but it doesn’t have to limit your lifestyle. To help patients new to an ostomy, Baptist Union County has created an Ostomy Support Group where you can meet other ostomy patients, talk to medical experts and get answers to all your questions.

The group sessions are free and occur the fourth Tuesday of every month in the 5th floor classroom at Baptist Union County from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Each meeting is dedicated to an important topic on living with an ostomy, including skin care, equipment supply information, caregiver education, available resources and nutrition.

Hospitalist Program

A hospitalist is a physician who specializes in and focuses on patients’ hospital care from the time of admission until their discharge as a surrogate for primary care physicians. The hospitalist coordinates all specialist care and testing while keeping you, your personal physician and your family informed about your condition at any time, day or night.
