Baptist Memorial Transplant Program Information for Physicians

Baptist's patient population draws from a large regional area to include Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee. Baptist works to provide individualized patient care and utilize every hospital resource available. If you have a patient who needs to be evaluated for transplant, Baptist Thoracic Transplant Services are committed to work together to meet the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs and exceed expectations of our patients, families and fellow co-workers.

Please see our Referral Checklists to be sure you provide all necessary patient information when making a referral to the Baptist Transplant Program.

Considerations When Referring a Patient for Transplant

  • Absence of serious systemic illness or other medical conditions which may affect immediate or long term survival
  • Age <68 with a limited life expectancy
  • No chronic or current dialysis
  • Cancer free (internal cancers) for a period of 5 years of successful treatment
  • No contraindication to immunosuppresion therapy
  • No active infectious disease
  • No tobacco use within the last 6 months
  • No use of illicit drugs within the last 6 months
  • No dependence on narcotics

Outcome Measurement

Baptist is diligent in measuring, evaluating and reporting clinical outcomes. Therefore we are able to identify and initiate improvements in all aspects of patient care. This process has enabled the program to decrease length of stay, decrease cost and improve survival rates.

Research

Baptist Memorial Hospital supports research with a dedicated department involved in a variety of studies. Patients are afforded the opportunity to participate in studies as indicated.
