Baptist Memorial Hospital - Intensive Care

Daily Bread
Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.
Jude 2

Our experienced and well-trained staff is available around the clock to care for our patients and strives to provide them with the best critical care possible. Intensive care is a very complex and stressful environment for staff, patients and relatives. Making sure that we are providing high-quality care becomes even more important when patients are so ill. This is a responsibility that we take very seriously here at Baptist.

Our ICU team consists not only of doctors and nurses, but also dietitians, pharmacists, ward clerks, audit assistants, nursing assistants, as well as all the visiting staff carrying out X-rays and other tests. We are also supported by laboratory and management personnel.

The following hospitals offer Intensive Care services:

Baptist ICUs are fully equipped to provide advanced intensive care, including mechanical ventilation (the use of a breathing machine to assist the patients own breathing efforts or to take over the work of breathing for him or her). We also have the equipment to take over the function of the kidneys if these have failed. The renal replacement machines used for this purpose can be run 24 hours per day, seven days per week if necessary.

Baptist is committed to providing our patients with the latest techniques and services that will maximize care. That's one reason that Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis' 38-bed general intensive care unit uses an open intensivist model to care for patients. On weekdays, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, physicians make rounds with nurses, respiratory therapists and other members of the health care team and assume responsibility for patient resuscitation efforts. The intensivists are on site in the intensive care units from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. and are available to respond to patient needs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Adopting this model is one more way Baptist is helping enhance patient care.
