A Letter from Stephen C. Reynolds
Dear Friends,
As our 2004 Community Report indicates, these are stories about heroes. Heroes who treat thousands of patients every year with expert skill and compassion. Heroes who give their free time to support causes near and dear to Baptist – from breast cancer research and educating schoolchildren to community health. Heroes I’m proud to call my colleagues.

Every day, I marvel at how hard the dedicated staff and physicians at Baptist Memorial Health Care work to help ensure our patients and communities get the care and services they deserve. We have colleagues who spend significant amounts of time securing free medications for patients who couldn’t otherwise afford them. Others help TennCare- and Medicaid-eligible patients apply for benefits. Many volunteer their time to provide health care for the homeless. And many provide care to those who can pay them only with a "thank you."
As you look over just a sampling of things Baptist colleagues have done for our communities this past year and consider the value of Baptist’s community commitment, please take a minute to think about these people - those who not only have dedicated their careers to healing others, but who also spend their free time helping build healthier, stronger communities. They are the backbone of our organization at Baptist. I cannot thank them enough for all they do, and I think, after reading this report, you’ll feel the same. I am honored to work with them – true heroes – as we serve you.
Stephen C. Reynolds

P.S. I’m proud to say that last year alone, Baptist spent $300 million to benefit our communities. You can see the breakdown of these dollars on the community contributions page.
