Baptist Memorial Health Care's new family-based weight management program will teach both you and your children how to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Program Details

Baptist Memorial Health Care's family-based wellness program that focuses on nutrition and exercise to teach your entire family how to make healthy lifestyle choices.

How it works:

  • 10 week program for children in grades 1-5 and their parents
  • Participants must reside in the state of Tennessee
  • Free program
  • Nutrition/health education sessions

Healthy Living Support Group

Available at: Benjamin Hooks Library; Memphis, TN

Enjoy a light dinner and learn healthy living tips the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7p at the Benjamin Hooks Library.

RENEW

Available at: Various Locations

The RENEW program is a healthy lifestyle 10-week program that includes Exercise and nutrition education. The goal of RENEW is to:

  • Provide participants with tools that equip them to live a healthy lifestyle
  • Recognizing and dealing effectively with emotional triggers that influence eating
  • Managing stress, understanding change, developing assertiveness and establishing realistic expectations
  • Making healthy food choices, eating balanced meals, getting active, and losing weight using the non diet approach
Benefits
  • 10 weeks of exercise and nutrition education (90 minute sessions)
  • Development of a healthy lifestyle and weight loss
Qualifications
  • Willing to make changes in habits
  • Attend meetings all scheduled meetings
  • Complete enrollment forms prior to class
  • Participants must reside in the state of TN
Participating in the Program

Classes are limited to 12 participants at a time, and there is no cost for residents of Tennessee.

Surgical Weight Loss Procedure Seminars

Available at: Baptist Memphis

George Woodman, M.D., of MidSouth Bariatrics will talk about the benefits and risks of weight loss surgery and its growing use in the treatment of morbid obesity. Woodman, one of the first surgeons in the U.S. to perform the LAP-BAND® System procedure, has performed numerous weight-loss surgeries at Baptist Memphis.

Diabetes

Diabetes Education Class

Available at: Baptist Rehab-Germantown

Our comprehensive diabetes education program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association. During an initial evaluation, our staff works with you to develop goals and a personalized plan of care, which may include exercise and weight loss as well as behavioral change strategies. Your personalized plan will then be implemented in group classes and individual sessions. The program may be completed in 1-12 months.

Gestational Diabetes Class

Available at: Baptist Rehab-Germantown

Expectant mothers receive glucose-meter training, meal planning and a gestational diabetes management plan in this three-hour class

Senior Activities

Senior Lunch Bunch

Available at: Baptist North Mississippi

The Senior Lunch Bunch meets at noon on the first Thursday of each month in the Cafeteria Conference Room of Baptist North Mississippi-North Mississippi. Each month we have a speaker on a variety of health related and community topics. Anyone aged 50 and up is invited to attend. Lunch is served by the hospital catering service and the cost is $3 per person. Reservations required by contacting Jennifer Eastland at 662-232-8109.
