Baptist Foundation Creates Nurse Leadership Coach Position

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Reynae Bennett, who was most recently director of women's services at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, was chosen as the system's first nurse leadership coach, a position created and funded by the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation.

In her new role, Bennett will provide resources and mentoring to nurse managers and emerging nurse leaders, facilitate appropriate training for nurse managers, coordinate nurse manager orientation, and collaborate with hospital leaders to identify and meet educational and leadership needs.

"We are so excited to have Reynae in this exciting new role," said Beverly Jordan, vice president of nursing and chief nurse executive for Baptist Memorial Health Care. "With her wide range of experience, she will be an outstanding mentor to nurse managers and emerging leaders. By providing mentoring and resources to our nurse leaders, we empower them to become more effective in their roles, which helps us raise the bar of care we provide."

The Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation is the fundraising arm of Baptist Memorial Health Care, a not-for-profit organization. The Foundation funds a number of positions designed to enhance patient care, including a nurse navigator position at several Baptist facilities. Nurse navigators, registered nurses specially trained in cancer care, streamline the cancer treatment process for patients by helping them access local resources, services and support groups; accompanying patients to doctor visits; answering questions about treatment options; and providing emotional support.

Funds raised by the Foundation help to accomplish Baptists charitable care objectives and provide resources for enhancing care, education and clinical research. Gifts made by individuals, families, corporations, foundations, and other organizations to the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation play a vital role in fulfilling the mission of the Baptist Memorial Health Care system.
