Baptist Union County Wins Community Value Award

NEW ALBANY, Miss. - Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County was recently recognized as a Community Value Five-Star hospital, a ranking based on the value hospitals bring to their communities.

The Community Value Index measures on four areas of hospital performance: financial viability and plant reinvestment, hospital cost structure, hospital charge structure and hospital quality performance. These indicators suggest that Baptist Union County provides value to the community when it's financially viable, is appropriately reinvesting back into the facility, maintains a low cost structure, has reasonable charges, and provides high-quality patient care.

"We are proud that Baptist Union County has won the Community Value Five-Star hospital award," said James Huffman, CEO and administrator of Baptist Union County. "The award reflects our commitment to our patients and improving the overall health of our community."

Cleverley and Associates created the Community Value Index rating system in 2000 to assess the value that hospitals provide to their communities.

Baptist Union County is a 153-bed hospital that offers a variety of health care services, including labor and delivery; outpatient and laser surgery; full service radiology and laboratory departments; and a 24-hour emergency room, which sees approximately 19,000 patients annually. In 2008, the hospital renovated its Women's Center, which now features 10 labor/delivery/recovery suites, two surgical suites for Caesarean sections, a newly remodeled level I newborn nursery and a 28-bed postpartum unit.
