Response to Action News 5 Consumer Report

Some of you may have seen a story on Channel 5 last night about local hospitals' infection rates. The story does not at all reflect our stellar efforts to keep patients safe. Patients can always feel safe in our hospitals and feel confident in our abilities to follow safety guidelines.

Much of the information in the story was based on an interview the reporter did with Consumer Reports' medical director. As a result, the information about Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis' infection rates was incorrect. The truth is the raw data in Consumer Reports show Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis' infection rates are 16% below the national average.

In fact, just last month, Baptist Memphis was the only hospital in West Tennessee to receive the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award, placing it in the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for patient outcomes.
