Baptist Memphis Recognized Nationally as Top Performer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis was recently recognized by Premier QUEST as a high-performing hospital for its focus on transparent quality, efficiency and safety.

QUEST is a three-year program that invites hospitals across the nation to develop and share best practices for improving performance in quality, safety and efficiency. The five areas of measurement include mortality ratio, appropriate care, efficiency, harm avoidance and patient experience.

Baptist Memphis was recognized for decreasing costs while increasing compliance with evidence-based care.

"We are so pleased that our facility was recognized for implementing QUEST'S top performance standards," said Derick Ziegler, administrator and CEO of Baptist Memphis. "We plan to sustain our gains while looking for other ways to enhance patient care."

The Baptist Memphis campus includes the 706-bed hospital that is the flagship of the Baptist Memorial Health Care system. It serves as a major referral center for patients from across the Mid-South and offers many diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitation services. The hospital has added hundreds of beds in the past few years, with the opening of a new patient tower and the Baptist Heart Institute. Consumers have rated Baptist Memphis their most preferred hospital for overall health care services in an independent National Research Corp. poll for the past 14 years in a row, and according to HealthGrades®, Baptist Memphis' cardiac and gastrointestinal surgery, as well as its stroke, pulmonary and critical care services were among the top 5 percent in the nation in 2010, resulting in the facility receiving the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical ExcellenceTM.
