Baptist Golden Triangle Opens New Special Procedures Area

COLUMBUS, Miss., July 26, 2010- Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle has recently opened a new pre- and postoperative holding area dedicated to patients undergoing special procedures in the interventional radiology department.

The new holding area location is closer to the special procedure department, making it more convenient for patients and their families.

"We are pleased to offer this new convenience for patients and their families," said Paul Cade, administrator at CEO of Baptist Golden Triangle.  "Our facility is able to offer experienced, advanced care in a comfortable environment."

Three physicians, a nurse practitioner and a nurse are on the interventional radiology staff. At least one of the three physicians is on call every day, providing patients with 24-hour service. A radiology technician is also on call 24 hours a day. The nursing staff provides patient education, including pre- and postprocedure testing and follow up.

Baptist Golden Triangle interventional radiology physicians perform an average of 220 procedures a month, including transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt. TIPS allows portal hypertension, or high blood pressure in the portal veins, to be treated without surgery. Under X-ray guidance, the doctor is able to create a tunnel in the liver through which the blocked blood can flow.

With 328 beds, Baptist Golden Triangle is the largest regional hospital affiliated with the Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care system. More than 100 physicians and surgeons, who represent almost every medical specialty, practice at the hospital, which offers a full range of comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages. The hospital offers a variety of services to the community, including the Baptist Centers for Cancer Care, hospice for the terminally ill, Baptist Behavioral Health Care-Willowbrook for those with behavioral and mental health problems, an emergency room with 24-hour ambulance service, an extensive rehabilitation department and educational programs. Baptist Golden Triangle employs more than 1,000 health care professionals. For more information, please call 662-244-1000 or visit goldentriangle.baptistonline.org.
