Baptist Golden Triangle Auxiliary Makes Donation for Ambulance

COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle Auxiliary recently gave a $40,000 gift to be used for the purchase of a new ambulance for the hospital.

The Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation also awarded a $240,000 grant to the hospital's ambulance service for the purchase of cardiac monitors and auto pulse machines. In a recent meeting with the director of the ambulance service, the auxiliary learned of the hospital's need for a new ambulance.

"We see a need and we help fill it," said Bettye Jones, a volunteer and past president of the Baptist Golden Triangle Auxiliary. New trucks cost anywhere from $130,000 - $150,000.

The Baptist Golden Triangle Auxiliary, started in 1970, has around 100 members. The group raises money exclusively within the hospital through fund raising projects and through sales from the gift shop, which is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In 2009, the Baptist Golden Triangle Auxiliary donated more than 21,000 hours to the hospital, valued at more than $463,000. In addition, the group gave the hospital more than $26,000 in items for patient care and comfort as well as equipment; including special post-surgery camisoles for breast cancer patients; flat screen televisions for the hospital's cancer center; and a new six-foot marble scripture plaque for the lobby of the patient tower.
