Baptist DeSoto Receives Maximum Accreditation for Rehab Services

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities recently accredited Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto's inpatient rehabilitation program and stroke specialty program for the maximum of three years.

CARF is the highest accreditation a rehabilitation program can achieve. Rehabilitation programs accredited by CARF must demonstrate that patients served are benefiting from the facilities' services. To receive a three-year accreditation, organizations must undergo a rigorous peer review and show a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that the organization is committed to following CARF's accreditation conditions and standards.

"We are proud of this accomplishment because it is a testament to the hard work our rehab colleagues and physicians do every day," said Randy King, CEO and administrator of Baptist DeSoto. "It is important to us to provide our community with top-notch services, and this accreditation proves we're doing that."

Baptist DeSoto's inpatient rehabilitation program ranks in the top 1 percent in the nation for quality in a report based on 2009 performance outcomes.

CARF is an independent, not-for-profit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process centered around enhancing the lives of the people served. Founded in 1966, CARF establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.

Baptist DeSoto offers a number of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services and incorporates current research and evidence-based practice into its rehabilitation treatment protocols. The hospital has partnered with Mississippi State University's T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability to open the center's first satellite location for assistive technology, driving rehabilitation and biomedical engineering.
