Radiology Services

NEA Baptist has a full-service radiology department providing patients with quality care in a family environment. The department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a team dedicated to your comfort and care. NEA Baptist uses advanced technologies that provide digital images to help diagnose illness without invasive surgery.

Diagnostic Radiology Procedures

CT Scanner (CAT Scan)

Computed tomography (CT) imaging, also known as "CAT Scanning," makes it possible to detect minute differences in tissue structure that could not be readily identified with conventional techniques such as routine x-ray, fluoroscopy, or nuclear scanning. Our multi-detector scanner allows us to perform higher quality scans in less time. It is fast and patient friendly.

NEA Baptist is proud to bring an advanced CT scanner to Jonesboro. The only kind in our region, the dual source (256-slice scanner) can capture incredibly detailed images of the heart, brain, bones-even the smallest blood vessels. It can scan the entire body in less than six seconds. This speed can provide significant advantages when imaging older patients and children, as well as emergency department and intensive care unit patients.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a computer-based imaging tool that displays the body in thin tomographic sections. The MRI utilizes an interaction between radio frequency pulses and magnetized hydrogen nuclei within the body to assist with patient diagnosis. Our MRI machine produces some of the best images in the region, is ACR accredited, and is open enough that patients with mild claustrophobia are still able to withstand this exam.

Main uses for MRI include:

  • Carotid angiogram
  • ACL/MCL tears (knee injuries)
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Strokes
  • Tumors
  • Hernias

Ultrasound

This procedure utilizes high frequency sound waves to produce a film image of various structures. Ultrasound is frequently used on obstetrical patients to observe the unborn child.

Mammography

Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer. Research has proven that the success of treatment and survival rates for breast cancer patients are dramatically affected by early detection. Our 3D Mammography technology provides a better chance of detecting cancer early.

This state-of-the-art 3D technology captures multiple images – or slices – of the breast from varying angles. The images are combined to create a clear 3D reconstruction of the breast. This reconstruction allows our dedicated mammography radiologist to review the breast image layer by layer, increasing the visibility of fine details and the chance of identifying suspicious areas that may be hiding within the breast tissue. This service is now covered by Medicare and most insurance carriers.

3D Mammography detects 41% more invasive breast cancer and reduces false positives by up to 40%. Call 870-936-PINK to schedule your 3D mammogram.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/
Computed Tomography (CT) Scanning

This sophisticated imaging system gives doctors highly defined, 3-D images of form and function inside a patient's body. These detailed images provide doctors with critical information used in treating conditions such as cancer and heart disease.

Nuclear Medicine

This imaging specialty uses a multitude of radioactive isotopes to visualize structures within the body. Nuclear medicine is used most often to locate areas of increased activity within the body that could be cancerous and in need of further evaluation. It is also used to provide thyroid therapy and can detect a pulmonary emboli.

Interventional Radiology

Utilizing high quality imaging equipment, our Interventional Radiology suite offers patients and referring physicians a host of treatment options for cancer, vascular, gastrointestinal, urological diseases, women's health, and more, including:

  • Interventional Pain Management
  • Uterine Fibroid Clinic
  • Interventional Oncology
  • Arterial Disease Clinic
  • Vein Services

Benefits of Interventional Radiology services include:

  • Minimally invasive, targeted treatments using imaging guidance
  • Often replacements for open surgical procedures
  • Easier for the patient -- no large incisions, less risk, less pain and shorter recovery times

As in other areas of health care, NEA Baptist's Imaging Center continuously incorporates new developments in radiology and imaging to expand the range of services offered to our region. NEA Baptist utilizes the cath lab to perform special procedures such as carotid angiograms or arteriograms of the arms and legs.
