Am I a candidate for weight-loss surgery?

To be a candidate for weight-loss or bariatric surgery, a patient must meet one or more of the following parameters Use our adult BMI calculator (right) to find out your BMI.

    • More than 100 pounds over your ideal body weight
    • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or higher
    • Have a BMI of 35 or higher and are experiences severe negative health effects related to being severely overweight such as high blood pressure or diabetes
    • Are unable to achieve a healthy body weight for a sustained period of time, even with medically supervised dieting

How do I learn more about my surgical weight-loss options?

If your BMI is 35 or higher, the Baptist Weight Loss Center encourages you to attend a free education seminar hosted at Baptist Memphis. Reservations are not required. For more information, please call 901-226-LOSE (5673) or email christy.davis@bmhcc.org.

What about non-surgical weight-loss options?

Bariatric surgery is not the only way to lose weight. Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women offers the Weigh 2 Go program.
