MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 27, 2009 – Kathy Hunt, assistant professor and program chair of nuclear medicine technology at Baptist College of Health Sciences recently was named the 2009-10 president-elect of the Society of Nuclear Medicine’s Technologist Section.
The announcement was made during the society’s 56th annual meeting held June 13-17 in Toronto. SNM is the world’s largest society for molecular imaging and nuclear medicine professionals. Hunt has contributed to SNM’s Curriculum Guide for Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology, among other publications, and holds many honors, including the college’s 2006 Rose Y. Temple Distinguished Faculty Award.
Hunt has been with Baptist College since 1998. Prior to joining the college, she helped develop its baccalaureate degree program in radiological sciences while employed at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. From 1990 to 1998, Hunt directed and was primary instructor for the hospital’s nuclear medicine technology certificate program. She was also a faculty member for the Baptist Memorial Hospital’s School of Nuclear Medicine Technology from 1979 to 1990, teaching courses on radioimmunoassay, bioassay, nuclear medicine instrumentation and counting statistics.
Hunt received a Master of Science degree in leadership and policy studies from the University of Memphis, a certificate in nuclear medicine technology from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn., and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn.
The college, established in 1994, offers a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree with majors in respiratory care, diagnostic medical sonography, health care management, nuclear medicine technology, medical radiography and radiation therapy technology. The college also offers completion degrees for licensed or registered nurses and respiratory therapists.
In addition, the college provides a variety of class schedules, from traditional day classes to evening and weekend programs. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Bachelor of Health Sciences degrees. The college also participates in many federal and state financial aid programs.
