Memphis, Tenn., Jan. 1, 2004 - Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women welcomed the first baby of 2004 on Thursday, Jan. 1 at 6:32 a.m.
The 7-pound, 15-ounce baby boy, named Christopher Duane, was the first of two babies delivered during the day. Baptist’s Women’s Hospital presented Christopher’s family with a gift basket that included books donated by the hospital’s Dr. Sam P. Patterson Library, a diaper bag and other items donated by the Baptist Women’s Hospital gift shop, a $50 gift certificate for baby’s first photo donated by That’s My Baby, gourmet candies and a $25 gift certificate donated by Babies“R”Us.
“The birth of the year’s first baby brings with it hope and endless possibilities for the future,” said Anita Vaughn, administrator and CEO of Baptist’s Women’s Hospital. “It’s a joy to announce and a fitting start to a new year.”
Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women has 23 labor and delivery suites and 48 mother/baby rooms with a well baby nursery. The hospital also is equipped for any obstetrical emergencies with a 40-bed newborn intensive care unit, 24-hour neonatologist care and a high-risk pregnancy specialist. This comprehensive women’s hospital is the first of its kind in Memphis and one of only about 15 freestanding women’s hospitals in the nation.
