Memphis, Tenn., Sept. 6, 2001 - Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis patients, physicians and employees celebrated the grand opening of the Baptist Heart Institute today.
The 165,000-square-foot facility is located within Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis and expands the hospital's heart services. A surgery addition, cardiac catheterization labs, a pre- and post-cardiac cath unit, cardio-pulmonary transplant unit, cardiovascular recovery/cardiovascular intensive care unit, a cardiovascular step-down unit, two cardiac medicine units and the cardiac intervention unit will make up the Heart Institute.
"We believe this is a huge step forward for heart care in Memphis," said Stuart Mitchell, CEO and administrator of Baptist Memphis. "Because heart disease is so prevalent in the Mid-South, we felt it was important to dedicate our resources to providing state-of-the-art care for heart patients. The Heart Institute will combine all cardiovascular services under one roof, making it more convenient for patients, staff and physicians."
The Heart Institute will also house the Ford-Goltman Clinical Research Center, an in-patient facility that will allow researchers to conduct more types of clinical research trials.
