Next Step: Intensive Outpatient Rehab
Intensive outpatient programs for patients recovering from neurological injuries or joint replacements.
The Next Step program at Baptist Medical Group-Outpatient Care Center is designed to give Memphis-area patients who have experienced brain injury, stroke, or another disabling neurologic disease an important rehab option—an inpatient level of intensity in an outpatient setting. Physical, occupational and speech therapies team up with nursing support and supervision to plan individual treatment plans for each client. This highly specialized team works daily with each patient to help them achieve their goals.
In the Next Step program, patients receive intensive outpatient rehab similar to an inpatient rehab program, with the goal of reaching a level of independence to more fully participate in meaningful life activities. Typically patients come three to four days a week for three to five hours a day, then return to their home care setting at night.
How Long Do the Next Step Programs Last?
On average, people attend Next Step for about four weeks, 3-4 days per week for 3-5 hours per day.
What Should I Expect to Achieve?
Ultimate goals vary according to the individual, but in general, Next Step strives to achieve the following:
- Less dependence on others for care and decision making
- Ability to manage own care
- Participation in life to the extent you desire
- Successful return to work or school
- Knowledge and skills to maintain the gains made in the program
