Don’t be a work hero.
The telltale signs are there. The fever, the chills and the aches and pains that can’t be blamed on heavy lifting. You’ve got the flu. But you’ve also got a job.
It’s tempting to try to tough it out. If you can drag yourself out of bed, why not go to work? After all, the flu goes away on its own, right? Well, not exactly. In reality, the flu can lead to all sorts of problems if you don’t care for yourself properly while you have it. And once you’ve got it, there’s only one way of ridding your body of the virus as quickly as possible: rest.
Taking a few days off of work could easily save you a week in bed — or more. Plus, you’re most contagious during your first few days of symptoms. So don’t be a hero. Stay away from the workplace (and people in general, for that matter). You’re not doing your boss any favors by wiping out the entire department.
