Computers with wireless internet access are available for patient family access. Adaptive access options include various mouse, roller balls, and Dragon NaturallySpeaking software. Links to disability and diagnosis specific websites are pre-loaded including brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, amputee, MS, and others.
Assists with patient and staff safety, comfort. Installed in 11 patient rooms covering 21 patient beds. Lifts are also available in the inpatient and outpatient therapy gyms and pool area for transfer assist as well as body weight supported gait training.
Coordinated functional electrical stimulation units are available in a variety of sizes for both upper and lower extremity treatment in inpatient and outpatient therapies. Lower extremity units assist with reduction of foot drop, increased ankle/knee stability, and decreased muscle tone and spasticity during gait. The result is a more normalized gait patterns and higher velocity gait for increased repetition and extended distances. Upper extremity units assist with grasp release and are used for similar goals including increased proximal upper limb stability, more normalized movement patterns of upper extremity and trunk, as well as functional repetition of grasp/release.
This recumbent cycle provides coordinated lower extremity electrical stimulation to assist with pedaling motion and promote/increase lower extremity function with improved spasticity, muscle mass, circulation, bone density, and range of motion in the lower extremities.
Biodex Unweighing System
The un-weighing system provides body weight support of varying degrees depending on patient need and reduces apprehension and effort associated with early weight bearing and gait training after neurologic event. The system allows for increased therapist focus on quality of movement versus weight bearing support. As a result, patients experience reduced spasticity and improved velocity and endurance for higher repetition gait training.
Gait Trainer Treadmill
This specialized treadmill houses a force plate within the treadmill to provide visual biofeedback and objective electronic reports for step and stride length. This treadmill can be used with or without an un-weighing device.
This recumbent stepper allows independent active assisted movement and range of motion for hemiparetic extremities in a safe and supported position. Upper and lower extremities attachments allow for fixation of hemiparetic extremities. A lower extremity spreader bars support lower extremity positioning. On this device, the patient is able to produce a cycling motion with upper and/or lower extremities with active assistance from the unaffected extremities.
This tool provides interactive activities for practice and reinforcement of functional movements in a safe and controlled environment. The Wii system utilizes a 46 inch flat screen monitor and is located within the overhead lift system footprint for use separately or in coordination with un-weighing.
Seating and Mobility
Baptist Rehabilitation coordinates with area vendors for individualized seating and mobility assessments. Demonstration chairs including powered mobility and adaptive/supportive seating are available for trial and experience throughout the rehab process.
Bracing and Splinting
Baptist Rehabilitation is contracted with local prosthetic and orthotic companies to provide individualized bracing and splinting assessments. Multiple options are available for patient use and trial during the rehabilitation stay.
Modified Barium Swallow (MBS)
Baptist provides a wide array of diagnostic services including on-site MBS studies for evaluation and management of swallowing disorders.
Therapeutic Dining Program
A supervised and therapeutic meal program is available for patients with feeding and swallowing disorders. This program is provided and monitored 3 meals a day, 7 days a week.
Baptist Rehabilitation was the first in the Mid-South to offer a program of functional electrical stimulation for the treatment and management of swallow disorders/dysphagia. Baptist has since added the VitalStim Experia device to provide a more diverse program of electrical stimulation that not only assists with movement but also provides biofeedback and treatment of swelling and scar tissue formation.
Provides computer assisted therapy for patients with vocalization/fluency disorders.
iPad applications are used to assist with memory, cognition, problem solving, visual-spatial deficits, and communication. This widely available technology often provides an easy transition to home exercise and training.
Environmental Control Units (ECUs)
Adaptive devices that allow patients with limited mobility to manage basic room functions (bed position, nurse call, television, lights).
Care Alert System
A patient safety system helps protect patients with cognitive and or behavioral deficits by alerting caregivers when a patient enters/exits the nursing unit.
Baptist Rehabilitation has 13monitored beds with a 24 hour dedicated monitor technician to promote patient safety and protect against falls in the least restrictive environment possible.
Continuum of Care
Skilled rehabilitation, traditional inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient therapy and an integrated/"Next Step" day treatment program are all available at Baptist Rehabilitation Germantown.
Handicap accessible vans with patient lift and lock-down adaptations are available for therapeutic outings, home visits, and outpatient transport.
Transitional Living Unit
This apartment type setting allows patients and families to assess their skills and confidence under the supervision of the rehabilitation team so that issues and concerns can be included in therapeutic goals and addressed prior to discharge.
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Room
Baptist offers a newly renovated and extensively designed area for training and practice of home based skills such as food preparation, cooking, laundry, bathroom skills, home making skills, and household transfers.
Baptist Rehabilitation is the first in the area to offer In-Motion UE robotics. This device promotes upper limb recovery by guiding and assisting patients in high repetition, functional, intentional movements of the arm.
