Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) combines a magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of your tissues, joints, and internal organs. An MRI can help your physician diagnose and assess many conditions, including growths, tears, aneurysms, degenerative disorders, and sports- or work-related injuries or disorders. Scans may include an injection of contrast media to enhance the images. Some metals—such as aneurysm clips, implanted neurostimulators, pacemakers/defibrillators, or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation units—may prevent your physician from calling for an MRI.
