Assessment and Intervention

Rehabilitation Therapies

Provide education and training related to functional task performance and includes traditional therapies and community re-entry activities. Staff members are experienced and specialized in techniques to care for amputee populations and employ evidence-based techniques, devices and technology to maximize functional recovery and independence.

Physical Therapy

Addresses impairments related to functional movement, mobility, and gait training, balance, pain, exercise/activity intolerance, falls/injury prevention, fatigue and energy conservation.

Occupational Therapy

Addresses impairments related to ability to perform activities of daily living including self-care (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming), seating and skin care, bowel and bladder management, edema management, home management and safety skills, and fatigue.

Recreational Therapy

Provides leisure assessment, counseling and training in therapeutic, alternative, or adaptive leisure pursuits.

Speech Therapy

When indicated addresses specific impairments associated with language and communication, social interaction, swallowing dysfunction, and cognitive functioning.

Rehabilitative Nursing

Provides education and training on disease/disability process, skin care and positioning, residual limb care, co-morbidity management, and medication management.

Physiatrists/ Medical Staff

Provides oversight and direction to the rehab team and medical consultants (internal medicine, plastics, orthopedic surgeons) to address medical complications and co-morbidities such as contracture, wound and skin care, diabetes management, cardiovascular management, thromboembolic disease, infection, and pain management.

Prosthetists and Orthotists

Assist with fitting, fabrication, and adjustment of splints and braces (orthotics).

Seating and Mobility Specialists

Assist with selection and fitting of wheelchairs and seating systems.

Wound Care and Prevention Services

Specialized staff and physicians from the Baptist Rehabilitation Wound Care Management Center are available for consultation and assistance with management of specific wound or skin needs.


Addresses complications and co-morbidities such as skin care needs, diabetes management, weight management, etc.

Psychological Staff

Psychiatrists and psychologists assist with program design and are available for consultation to assess and address social, behavioral, cognitive, or emotional issues through education, medication, and counseling. Applicable issues include depression, sexuality, alcohol/drug use, changing life roles, and social coping and adaptation.

Respiratory Therapy

Assists with management of breathing and ventilatory issues/disorders, sleep disturbances and address risk factors such as smoking cessation.

Pain Management

Rehabilitation protocols and interventions as well as consulting physicians are available for use and consultation in complex pain situations.


Provide input, assessment and review of medication regimes and perform admission and discharge medication reconciliation. Assist patients with development of a portable health profile, which includes advanced directives, allergies, contact info, hospital preferences, insurance info, medical information, major surgical history, medication list and dosages, medication sensitivities, and functional status.

Diabetes Education

When indicated, certified professionals work with nursing staff to address diabetes prevention and management issues. Comprehensive outpatient programs are available.

Medical Services

Baptist Rehabilitation Germantown provides for or makes arrangements for necessary laboratory, neurodiagnostic and dialysis services.

Ancillary Professionals and Vendors Available to assist BRG rehabilitation staff with fitting and selection of specialized devices and equipment as needed for optimal functioning. These include: seating and mobility specialists, prosthetists and orthotists, product manufacturer representatives, rehab engineers, and DME providers.

Case Managers

Assist patients and families with case coordination. Serve as a liaison between the patient/family, the medical team, the hospital, and third party payers. Provide education and status updates to patients and families. Assist with discharge planning and follow-up needs.

Social Workers

Coordinate discharge needs and address coping needs through group and individual support groups. Provide assistance with and connection to area agencies, resources, and services for social, medical, and financial needs.

Team Conferences

Although communication and interaction are a daily and ongoing aspect of the inpatient rehabilitation program at BRG, formal team conferences occur weekly and allow the rehabilitative team to communicate patient progress, plans, needs, and goals in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative forum. Patients, families and caregivers are vital members of the rehab team. Information exchanged and developed in conference is shared with patients and families for input and feedback.
