Giving strength to people with Parkinson's
Baptist Rehabilitation-Germantown is proud to be the first facility in the Mid-South to offer Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT®) — an innovative and effective treatment for the speech communication (LSVT LOUD™) and physical/occupational therapy (LSVT BIG™) needs of individuals with Parkinson disease.
For more information about LSVT therapy, please call 901-624-8610 or 901-757-3458.
LSVT features two programs: LOUD and BIG
Improves vocal loudness by stimulating the muscles in the larynx and speech mechanism through a systematic hierarchy of exercises. It is focused on a single goal — "speak LOUD!" The treatment improves respiratory, laryngeal, and articulatory function to maximize speech intelligibility. It is completed in 16 sessions over a single month (four individual 60-minute sessions per week). This intense therapy has proven to be effective for 12-24 months following the completion of the program.
An intensive amplitude-based exercise program for the limb motor system. It focuses on re-education of the sensorimotor system and is designed to train patients to use their bigger movements "automatically" in their everyday life.
Patients with Parkinson's as well as other conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome can benefi t from these innovative forms of speech and physical therapy.
