Baptist Union City donates to local sports league
Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City recently donated an automated external defibrillator to local baseball and softball officials. The AED is a computerized medical device that can check a person’s heart rhythm during a cardiac arrest and advise a rescuer when a shock is needed. The AED uses voice prompts, lights and text messages to tell the rescuer the appropriate next steps.
“We are pleased to donate this AED that will be available at local games,” said Derick Ziegler, administrator and CEO for Baptist Union City. “In the event of a cardiac arrest emergency, league officials will be better prepared.”
Additionally, the EMS staff at Baptist Union City offered AED and CPR training to coaches, league officials and umpires from the following leagues: Babe Ruth, Babe Ruth Girls Softball, Cal Ripken T-ball, Cal Ripken Machine Pitch, Cal Ripken-Minor League and Cal Ripken-Major League.
