 Baptist Union City makes United Way donation Derick Ziegler, CEO and administrator at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City, recently presented a check for $2,000 to Kurt Baggett, treasurer for the United Way of Obion County. "Baptist Union City is pleased to support our local United Way because many Obion County agencies benefit greatly," said Ziegler. According to Baggett, donations to the United Way of Obion County help support the Obion County Volunteer Rescue Squad, Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Tennessee, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, the Obion County Literacy Council, the Obion County Office on Aging and several other organizations. "We appreciate Baptist Memorial Hospital's continued commitment to our community," said Baggett.   Baptist Union City offers Health Quest for Hometown Walk of Hope donations Women now have access to digital technology for their breast cancer screenings. Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City has donated space at its Health Quest facility, valued at $700 a month, for the Hometown Walk of Hope’s Hope Chest. "We are more than happy to commit space for this worthwhile cause," said Derick Ziegler, Baptist Union City CEO and administrator. Brenda Perry (left) and Lorraine Gossett are co-chairwomen for the Hometown Walk of Hope, an event that helps raise money for the Obion County Cancer Agency. The OCCA assists with the financial needs of cancer patients who live in Obion County. Cancer survivors and families of those who have lost the battle have been bringing wheelchairs, wigs, hats, walkers, educational videos, etc., to Gossett, who is the director of Health Quest. "With the Hope Chest, we are able to display all of these wonderful items that have been donated so that others fighting the disease may benefit," said Gossett.  Camille Mobbs (left) and Melissa Blackwell, both of Union City, were among the 53 people who participated in the first-ever Health Quest half-marathon. Baptist Union City holds First Health Quest half-marathon Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City’s Health Quest Center for Wellness recently held its first half-marathon. The 13.1-mile race drew 53 participants, including many out-of-town marathoners. Everyone who entered received a special T-shirt, and everyone who finished received a medal and a towel. The top-finishing men and women won trophies and cash prizes. The half-marathon was also a local CornFest event.  Baptist Union City names fourth quarter Service First Champion Candace Eubanks, a behavioral health counselor and three-year Baptist Union City employee, recently was named the hospital’s fourth quarter Service First champion. Here is what Candice’s nominator wrote about her. I would like to nominate Candace Eubanks for Service First Champion. Service First is about going above and beyond, and many times in her job she does just that. At the beginning of October, we had a very busy schedule and rough group of patients. These patients need all the counseling they can get and many days are just too sick from withdrawals to receive what we are offering. Many times we know there is little hope for recovery unless they go to a long-term rehab facility, but getting them there is very difficult. When it is time for discharge, everyone has follow-up plans. Typically we have a discharge coordinator who sets up appointments, but he was out. Candace had a patient who would not have gotten anywhere if Candace had not gone above and beyond just setting up appointments. The patient needed transportation to Louisville, Kentucky, and her family refused to help in any way. Candace has a gift for seeing hope in the “hopeless.” She spent the entire day with this one patient, encouraging her to keep trying and allowing the patient to use her phone to try and find some help. Candace even talked to some of the area churches to help make the arrangements and find money to buy her bus ticket. This consumed her day, but she was happy to do it if it meant getting the patient the long-term help she needed. Surveys are done for behavioral health on every discharge, and Candace typically is recognized by the patients more than anyone else.  Top of Page |
