 Heart Surgery Now Available at Baptist North Mississippi Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi welcomes cardiovascular surgeon Jake Lambert, M.D., to its staff of highly qualified physicians. After receiving a bachelor of science degree from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind., Lambert earned a medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, N.C. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson, where he also served as chief resident. Lambert completed a second residency in thoracic surgery at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He is board certified in thoracic and general surgery. "The opportunity to build the cardiovascular program at Baptist is exciting," said Lambert. "When you consider the talented physicians and support staff already in position, the leading edge technology, the strong referral potential and the beautiful facilities, you see that all the pieces are in place. I have also been quite impressed with the enthusiasm of the staff at the hospital." Lambert has been in private practice in Tallahassee, Fla., since 1997. "Having grown up in a small town in North Carolina and after practicing in several larger cities, I am looking forward to the small-town charm that Oxford has to offer," said Lambert. He and his wife, Kay, have two children, Cary and Cameron. Lambert was a clinical associate professor of surgery at the Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, W. Va. He has been selected for the Best Doctors in America in thoracic surgery three times between 1996 and 2002.  Top of Page
Baptist Employees Trim Down with Team Trim The results are in and the Team Trim competition created a lot of losers, which in this case is a very good thing! Employees throughout the Baptist Memorial Health Care system participated in Team Trim, a weight loss competition designed to motivate employees to adopt healthier lifestyle habits. The three teams that lost the greatest percentage of body weight at each hospital won prizes. At Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, more than 200 people lost a total of 1,027.1 pounds during the six-week contest. Claiming first place and the grand prize of $300 was Adios Adipose. Team members Jason Merill, Cathy Russell, Saricka Sommerville, Jackie Tinnon and Kim Springer lost 85.3 pounds, or 7.33% of their original total body weight. Leslie Ryals, Priscilla Hamric, Yarda Tables and Jamie Ellis – or the Jelly Belly Busters – came in second place. The team lost 48.3 pounds, or 5.85% of their body weight. Finally, Operation Losers came in third place. Team members Carol Lumsden, Mary Tate, Theresa Jones, Heath Yates and Glenda Sanford lost 60.6 lbs or 5.84% of their original body weight. Many thanks to the real winner who made this all possible, Debbie Stroup, who coordinated the contest for Baptist North Mississippi.
