Baptist Increases Safety Precautions with New Visitor Policy
Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi will introduce a new visitor policy beginning Feb. 1, 2004.

Under the new policy, all visitors staying after the normal visiting hours, which are from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., will be required to sign a security log and will be issued an identification badge. The main entrance will be the only point of entry and will be manned with a security guard to monitor all activity.

“The new policy is part of our commitment to provide a safe and secure environment for our patients and their families,” said Jim VanderSteeg, CEO and administrator of Baptist North Mississippi. “We want to make it as convenient as possible for people to visit their loved ones, while helping maintain our patients’ and visitors’ safety.”

Baptist Respiratory Department Named Quality Provider
Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi has been named a quality respiratory care provider under a program aimed at making sure patients have access to respiratory care services provided by qualified respiratory therapists.

The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) started the Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) program to help consumers make informed choices about their health care. Hospitals recognized under the program ensure patient safety by adhering to a strict set of criteria governing their respiratory care services.

  • Respiratory therapists are available 24 hours.
  • Other personnel qualified to perform specific respiratory procedures and the amount of supervision required for the personnel to carry out specific procedures must be designated in writing.
  • A doctor of medicine or osteopathy is designated as medical director of respiratory care services.

Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi currently employs 20 respiratory therapists and is under the medical direction of Jeffrey Evans, M.D., who is board certified in pulmonary medicine and sleep medicine.
