Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27

“Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County is ready and willing to assist me in any way possible when it comes to serving our students, parents and staff.”

- Tammie Reeder,
Health Services Coordinator, New Albany Public School District

The community where you work and live should be a place that meets your needs and the needs of your family. At Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, we take pride in meeting our patients’ needs, and strive to take an active role in serving the community. It is through the support of this community that Baptist Union County can continue to provide outstanding care and to fulfill our not-for-profit mission of preaching, teaching and healing. And that, in turn, means we can give back to the community in many meaningful ways that also help fulfill our mission.

Baptist Union County colleagues and physicians demonstrated their commitment to our community in many ways
“Thanks, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, for educating us on these safety/health topics. This will allow our employees and their families the opportunity to live longer and healthier lives.”
Tommy Ivy, Blue Mountain Plant Manager, BenchCraft
in 2004. These dedicated professionals have lived and breathed Baptist’s mission by volunteering, coordinating and supporting dozens of community events this year, including providing free health screenings, conducting blood drives and offering free safety training for numerous organizations – just to name a few.

The hospital’s efforts have supported such community organizations as The Good Samaritan Clinic, Union County Development Association, Magnolia Civic Center, New Albany Main Street, Smart Seniors, Camp Hopewell, Camp Bluebird, United Blood Services, Hickory Flat Medical Clinic, Union County Schools, New Albany City Schools, North Pontotoc Attendance Center, Piper, BenchCraft, Ecru Christian School and New Albany City and Union County fire departments. And these activities are in addition, of course, to the high-quality patient care Baptist Union County staff and physicians deliver each day.

As a team, hospital colleagues supported the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. We also conducted a student shadowing program for students at Pontotoc County and the New Albany Vocational Center. In addition, we provided screenings during health fairs throughout the community. More than 1,500 individuals were screened for cholesterol, blood pressure, anemia, prostate cancer and osteoporosis. In August, 50 Baptist Union County colleagues volunteered their time to host a back-to-school health fair, where more than 600 children and parents learned health and safety information, got free health screenings, were fingerprinted and received free gifts.

Also in August, the hospital co-sponsored the first annual Seniors Conference to provide free educational health information and screenings to more than 150 senior citizens. Senior groups were surveyed through local chapters and church groups to learn about their health concerns. Based on this, the hospital offered free blood pressure checks, blood glucose and osteoporosis screenings, as well as nutritional, diabetes, cancer awareness and falls prevention information.

In partnership with members of the medical staff, seven lunch and learn programs were provided free to the community on a variety of topics including preventive women’s health, hormone replacement therapy, urinary incontinence, colon cancer, sleep disorders, prostate health, and preventive health tips for seniors.
