The Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis campus includes the flagship hospital of the Baptist Memorial Health Care system. Opened in 1979, the hospital is located adjacent to the I-240 loop. Also located on the Baptist Memphis campus is a separately licensed 30-bed skilled nursing facility and the 30-bed Restorative Care Hospital. With more than 27,000 admissions, 54,000 emergency department visits and nearly 116,000 outpatient visits in 2007, Baptist Memphis is one of Tennessee’s highest volume hospitals.

The emergency department has 31 treatment suites and six fast track treatment rooms staffed by 24-hour-a-day emergency physicians for the treatment of adults. It also has a separate, dedicated five-room pediatric emergency department staffed around the clock with in-house pediatric emergency physicians. The pediatricians see more than 800 children a month and the service is continuing to grow. In addition, the hospital houses the 19-bed inpatient Hardin Pediatric Center. Overall, Baptist Memphis offers high-quality pediatric services.
The Baptist Heart Institute, located within Baptist Memphis, is dedicated to providing leading-edge cardiovascular research and treatment for heart patients. The Heart Institute, which measures 165,000 square feet, includes areas for cardiovascular procedures, cardiovascular surgical suites, heart catheterization labs, cardiovascular intensive care beds, a cardiac intervention unit, cardiac medicine units, a pre/post cath lab unit, electrophysiology labs, a cardiopulmonary transplant unit and a cardiovascular step-down unit. The Ford-Goltman Clinical Research Center, also located in the Heart Institute, is a specialized unit dedicated to providing care for clinical research patients.
Baptist Memphis also operates the Plaza Diagnostic Pavilion, an outpatient facility that handles more than 10,000 outpatient visits a month and centralizes many of the hospital’s outpatient services. In addition, the Pediatric Outpatient Center (P.D.’s Perch) sees more than 800 patients a month.
For the 13th year in a row, Mid-South consumers have rated Baptist Memphis their most preferred hospital for overall health care services in a National Research Corp. poll.
According to HealthGrades, Baptist Memphis ranks best in Tennessee for cardiac surgery, stroke care and gastrointestinal surgery. The health care ratings organization also ranked Baptist Memphis in the top 5 percent in the nation in these same areas.

Aug. 5, 2009 – Katrena Stafford, a nurse working in the pulmonary department at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis, recently earned the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, given in appreciation of the work nurses do.
