Baptist Memorial Hospital-Lauderdale provides free diabetes education classes where a registered nurse and registered dietitian provide resources to help participants manage their diabetes and live a healthier lifestyle.
Information covered in the three- to four-session course includes:
- Understanding diabetes
- Diabetes medications and insulin
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Healthy eating and lifestyle modifications
- Preventing complications caused by diabetes
- The role of physical activity in diabetes management
The diabetes team guides individuals through treatment and assists them in developing an individualized plan that includes learning to balance eating, physical activity, medication, and a blood glucose monitoring routine. A physician referral is required. This project is funded under an agreement with the State of Tennessee. The classes are free to Tennessee residents only.
