Tips to increase fiber intake: eat more vegetables, fruits, and grains; select whole fruits instead of juice; eat the skin on fruits, such as apples, pears and peaches; choose whole grain breads and cereals, those with 2 grams fiber per serving; eat dried beans; try dried fruit; eat high-fiber cereal; add wheat bran, wheat germ or other sources of fiber to recipes; choose snacks with high-fiber foods; add fiber at the salad bar.

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Lauderdale, located in Ripley, Tenn., joined Baptist Memorial Health Care in 1980. This 25-bed critical access facility includes a surgery department, medical/surgical wing, critical care unit, outpatient services, outpatient rehabilitation and an additional 10-bed Senior Care Unit for geriatric mental health services. The hospital also provides a 24-hour physician-staffed emergency department.
Many services are available at Baptist Lauderdale which are not usually found in a rural area. Some of these services include in-house CT scanning, MRI, mammography, ultrasonography, nuclear medicine, laboratory as well as physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapy. Additionally, specialty physicians are available for cardiology, family practice, general surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pediatrics, podiatrics, psychiatry and pulmonology.
Baptist Lauderdale works hand-in-hand with local employers by providing a comprehensive workers compensation program and a wide array of preventive health programs to promote wellness, such as health scans, on-site drug screens, employee assistance programs, smoking cessation classes and on-site CPR and first aid training. A variety of speakers also are available to make educational presentations. In addition, the office of pastoral care provides ministry to patients and family members and the Baptist Lauderdale League provides volunteer services.
