At Baptist Memorial Hospital-Lauderdale, we are excited and proud to be an integral part of the fabric of this community. We take pride in providing high-quality health care to our patients, and believe it’s our responsibility as a not-for-profit hospital to actively participate in and support the community we serve. Through the care we provide to patients each day, as well as the many activities and programs we conduct that enhance the health and well-being of our community, we strive to live Baptist’s mission of preaching, teaching and healing.

As I reflected on our service and activities this past year to develop this community report, I noted how committed our doctors and employees are to making our community a better place to live. I have been personally touched by the kindness and support of this community and by participating in our community activities at Baptist Lauderdale. I am more convinced than ever that community partnerships do make a difference. For instance, Baptist Lauderdale’s 11 scholarships provided to health care students this past year will help this community retain highly skilled health care workers to care for our citizens.

And this example is just one of numerous ways I’ve been blessed to work at Baptist Lauderdale this past year to support and benefit our patients and our community. This report gives you just some of the highlights of our efforts to serve you in 2004. When you consider all our efforts that provided benefit for the community this past year – whether through providing charity care for the indigent or such activities as free health screenings for the community – our total community benefit amounts to $6.3 million. I thank you for that opportunity to serve you, and continue to pledge to you Baptist Lauderdale’s commitment to offering top-quality health care.
