Baptist Rehabilitation-Germantown uses electromyogram and nerve conduction study (EMG/NCS) to treat patients with numbness and tingling of extremities, burning of the feet, or pain and weakness of extremities.
Our experienced staff uses advanced equipment to deliver small electrical stimuli to patients (similar to the “static on the carpet” experience) and test their muscular response. EMG and NCS are useful for diagnosing a variety of neuromuscular disorders, including:
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Compression neuropathy such as carpal tunnel syndrome
- Peroneal nerve compression
- Cubital tunnel and tarsal tunnel
- Neuromuscular junction diseases such as myasthenia gravis and Eaton Lambert syndrome
- Proximal neuropathy such as Guillain-Barre syndrome.
- Motor neuron diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
- Nerve root compression/lesions such as radiculopathy from a ruptured disk
- Plexopathy
- Muscle disorders such as myopathy, myositis, and muscular dystrophy
Dr. Sunita Jain directs the electrodiagnostics lab. Dr. Jain is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and is the medical director at Baptist Rehab-Germantown.
