Baptist Germantown Wins State Patient Safety Award
The Tennessee Department of Health, in conjunction with the Tennessee Improving Patient Safety State Advisory Committee, recently honored Baptist Rehabilitation-Germantown with a Tennessee Improving Patient Safety (TIPS) award.
The award recognizes excellence in enhancing quality of care and patient safety. Recipients of these awards have demonstrated a commitment to providing exceptional patient-centered health care.
Baptist Germantown won the award for its efforts to reduce patient falls. Measures taken by the hospital to reduce falls included 24-hour video monitoring, use of wheelchair seatbelts to prevent slipping and the installation of additional call light indicators in corridors.
Awards were given in several categories for hospitals, based on size and care. Categories included hospitals under 100 beds, hospitals with 100 to 299 beds, hospitals with more than 300 beds, long-term care nursing homes and home health agencies. One winner was selected from each category. Baptist Germantown won in the category for hospitals under 100 beds.
Entries were evaluated for their creativity and innovation, practicality, reliance upon data, transferability, leadership commitment and support, performance improvement actions and results, and multidisciplinary team participation. The Tennessee Improving Patient Safety Coalition selected the winners.
Award winners were recognized in September 2005 at the second annual Patient Safety Symposium in Nashville, Tenn.
