Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto hosted a groundbreaking ceremony April 27, 2004, to mark the beginning of construction on its $175 million, 10-story bed tower.
The 400,000-square-foot bed tower will add 140 acute and critical care beds to the hospital, allowing it to offer all private rooms. The project also will add a new and expanded emergency department, more operating suites and space for future additions. About 100,000 square feet of space within the hospital, which includes the areas where the emergency department and rehabilitation services are now, will be renovated, as well. The bed tower is expected to be completed by October 2006.
"We are very excited about this project," said Randy King, administrator and CEO of Baptist DeSoto. "This project will allow us to enhance the care we deliver to our patients and keep pace with our county's rapid growth."
