Expanded Critical Care Unit
Baptist DeSoto’s expanded critical care unit has two surgery suites for cardiovascular surgeries, a cardiac catheterization laboratory, a radiology special procedures room, a 22-bed outpatient surgery services unit and additional critical and intensive care unit beds. During the first seven months the unit was open, physicians performed 100 coronary artery bypass graft procedures (a type of open-heart surgery) and 1,000 heart catheterizations there.

Women's Pavilion
Because physicians and staff deliver more than 100 babies a month at Baptist DeSoto, the hospital decided to expand its labor and delivery services. The result of that expansion is the Baptist Women's Pavilion, a 34,570-square-foot multi-service center serving women through all stages of life and health.

It combines all labor and delivery services in one convenient location and includes services for gynecological surgery and care. It comprises nine labor and delivery suites, 24 post-partum rooms, two operating suites and a childbirth education room. It also has a five-room triage area, which is new to the hospital. Every room is equipped with a heated crib for newborns and has plenty of space for new mothers and babies as well as their families.

Baptist Center for Cancer Care-DeSoto
The opening of the Baptist Center for Cancer Care-DeSoto means North Mississippi residents no longer have to travel long distances to receive high quality cancer care. The 13,000-square-foot facility houses a patient education room, two procedure rooms, two exam rooms and an inpatient holding area. A separate entrance for the center provides convenient access for patients and visitors. Experienced physicians, nurses and other health care professionals staff the center, which has some of the most advanced equipment available.

The BCCC-DeSoto also features visual therapy, or artwork designed to lift patients' spirits while they undergo treatment. Pieces of art are built into the ceilings of the treatment rooms and other areas of the center. As part of the grand opening celebration for the center, Baptist DeSoto hosted the "Lasting Impressions" art contest for local residents who have been touched by cancer in some way. Thirteen winning pieces of art hang on the walls of the cancer center.
