Saturday, April 25, 2009, 8 a.m. to noon

Enjoy fitness tips from our rehab group, interactive demonstrations, educational information, and take advantage of free health screenings, free giveaways and much more. Baptist DeSoto main entrance.

Surviving and Thriving Stroke Symposium
Saturday, May 2, 8 a.m. to noon

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in America and the number one cause of adult disability. Up to eighty percent of strokes are preventable. This event is designed to educate both community members and healthcare professionals about stroke prevention, risk factors for stroke, and medical treatment of stroke.

It will also include information about the psychological effects of stroke on survivors and their caregivers, community resources available to aid those affected by stroke, and current rehabilitation interventions from the fields of speech pathology, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Free blood pressure screenings will be available to those who attend.

The Stroke Symposium will be held in the Desoto Rooms, near the north entrance. Seating will be limited, so please call 662-772-2150 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to reserve a seat.




Surgical Weight Loss Procedure
Information Seminars


George Woodman, M.D., of Midsouth Bariatrics will talk about the benefits and risks of weight loss surgery and its growing use in the treatment of morbid obesity. Woodman, one of the first surgeons in the U.S. to perform the LAP-BAND® System procedure, has performed numerous weight-loss surgeries.

2009 Childbirth Classes


Saturday Childbirth Education

An alternative for those who can't attend on weeknights, this all-day Saturday class covers the basics of childbirth: what to expect in labor and delivery, pain management options and breathing and relaxation techniques. A tour of labor and delivery unit is also included. The fee for this class is $75.
