We take pride at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton in being a vital part of the communities throughout Tipton County, and during 2004, we have supported various community organizations with our time, colleagues, volunteers, sponsorships and donations. As a not-for-profit hospital, this is part of our mission. We strive to live this mission each day through the care we provide our patients, but also by caring for our community. In 2004, we took an active role in supporting numerous community events and activities; this report highlights only a few of them.
Organizations and causes Baptist Tipton colleagues supported in 2004 include the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Cystic Fibrosis, South Tipton Chamber of Commerce, Covington-Tipton Chamber of Commerce, Junior Auxiliary Women’s Club Children’s Fair, Covington High School Sports Program, The Carl Perkins Center for Abused Children, Heart to Heart, Dyersburg State nursing students and Concorde Career Institute respiratory and pharmacy tech students.
Highlights of our work in the community this year include the tutoring and job shadowing program our colleagues conducted for Tipton County high schools, and the back-to-school supplies they provided for Children and Family Services. Each department from the hospital took items from a list of supplies students needed to be prepared for the school year and purchased 60 of the items. We donated these items to Children and Family Services for their back-to-school fair, where families who need help getting school supplies for their children could select the needed items.
Baptist Tipton nurses and clinical technicians offered more than $35,000 of in-kind contributions in training to Dyersburg nursing students, Concorde Career Institute clinical students and techs who train in the hospital’s Radiology department, as well.
In addition, hospital colleagues raised more than $8,000 this year in support of Relay for Life, the hospital’s largest fund-raising activity which benefits the American Cancer Society. The hospital has won Best Campsite at the ACS’s all-night walk for the past four years. Baptist Tipton colleagues also contribute countless hours to the March of Dimes WalkAmerica campaign, each year hosting three team captain campaign luncheons and an appreciation party at the hospital.
Baptist Tipton is very active in providing free health fairs in the community, as well, for senior citizens at their annual Kaleidoscope Fair, for employees at area industries and businesses and through sports and fitness programs at various area schools.
