Pharmacy Practice Residency Program

The residency program emphasizes training in all aspects of the acute-care pharmacy practice model with the goal of developing the residents' expertise, knowledge, and skills in the following areas:

  • Internal medicine
  • Infectious diseases
  • Cardiology
  • Critical care
  • Practice management

Participation in the hospital's medication-use management process via Pharmacy and Therapeutics sub-committees will occur over the course of the residency year.

While the primary focus will be on clinical activities, residents will also be trained on order entry and preparation of intravenous medications, which furthers an understanding of providing pharmaceutical care in an inpatient setting.

During the year, residents will be responsible for completing a research project. The findings will be presented at the Mid-South Regional Residents' Conference, which is held on the campus of the University of Memphis.

Additional opportunities include assisting in the educational experiences of students from the University of Mississippi and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Pharmacists participate in multidisciplinary conferences daily and serve as valuable members of the patient care teams.

Through targeted initiatives, including CMS Core Measure Requirements, we assist in ensuring that patients receive optimal medication therapy for their specific disease states. Other areas of focus include monitoring of high risk medications, evaluating regimens for polypharmacy concerns, anticoagulation management, nutrition support, pharmacokinetics, and patient education.
