Nursing at Baptist DeSoto

No matter what stage of your nursing career you are in, Baptist can help you develop your talents and continue to advance. We offer new programs geared toward potential nurses, first-year nurses, and seasoned nurses, all designed to improve the quality of nursing opportunities and to train the nursing leaders of tomorrow.

Nursing is no longer just about the medicine. It's about positioning ourselves as experts in managing diseases before and after patients enter and leave the hospital. Baptist DeSoto's career-long learning opportunities will help you achieve that level of excellence.

Crash Course Nursing Camp

Crash Course is a summer internship for high school students to introduce them into the nursing field. Far more than just a summer camp, Crash Course lets students work alongside experienced nurses at Baptist DeSoto, to see the true world of nursing.

From caring for patients to participating in actual nursing classes, teen campers get to see what it is truly like to work in health care.

Nurse Internships

Nothing beats hands-on experience, and with Baptist DeSoto you'll get plenty of chances to hone your skills while still school. We partner with area colleges and universities to help nurses complete their final clinical required for graduation.

With continual advancements in technology and education, the nurse of today will not be the same as the nurse of tomorrow. University internships are valuable in helping nurses become forward thinkers and innovators so they can anticipate the needs of their future patients.

Clinical Nurse Residency Program

This program gives first-year nurses the monthly support, education, and training needed to succeed. We've partnered with the Baptist College of Health Sciences to provide an on-site instructor and hired a program coordinator to customize a career path for each of our new graduates. Nursing graduates will get hands-on assistance while they gain proficiency in their specialties, and will meet in a support group setting for 12 months.

Nursing is a rewarding but demanding profession. Baptist DeSoto wants to make sure all our new nurses are fully prepared to handle their new challenges. The clinical nurse residency program is designed after a program that decreases turnover to less than five percent. This new program will offer continued support throughout the first year for clinical practice and education, such as learning new procedures.

We are proud to be the only hospital in the metro- Memphis area and the only hospital in Northern Mississippi to offer this elite program. It is our goal to help ensure you have a rewarding career with Baptist.

Leadership 100

Under the motto, "Lighting the Way for the Next 100 Years of Nursing Excellence," we are promoting 100 new leaders in nursing in honor of the Baptist centennial.

Leadership 100 is designed to help seasoned nurses to advance through continuing education. The goal is to successfully transition new nurse managers into their leadership roles through a designed program.
