Hospitalist Services

What is a hospitalist?

A hospitalist is a physician who specializes in acute care and focuses on your hospital care from the time of admission until your discharge. During that time, a team of physicians, nurses, and support staff follows a defined process of patient care that is coordinated with your primary care physician.

Our hospitalist team

Our hospitalists are an experienced team of physicians who are board certified/board eligible in internal medicine and specialize in hospital care. We provide 24/7 backup support for all physicians and offer continuity of care maintained by a multidisciplinary team. Our team includes nurses who are trained to concurrently review patient charts and assist physicians to comply with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' quality goals to reduce complications. Each physician's quality data are reviewed regularly.

What can I expect during my hospitalization?

During the course of your hospitalization, our skilled team of specialists in hospital medicine:

  • Medically manage your condition
  • Coordinate all specialist care and testing
  • Keep you, your personal physician, and your family informed about your condition
  • Discuss further treatment needs
  • Prescribe medications

How does the hospitalist service work?

Our hospitalists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and they work together to care for you. More than one physician may see you during your hospitalization; however, your care will continue to be well coordinated and seamless. The hospitalist works with a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals that provides high-quality and efficient care.

At discharge, the hospitalist provides your physician with a detailed report on your hospital stay and the findings, as well as a printed discharge summary for your physician's records. Your physician resumes responsibility for your care after your discharge. Please let your nurse know if you would like to speak with your physician.

Quality care

Our hospitalists strive to attain accurate diagnosis, involve appropriate specialists as needed, and eliminate your in-hospital complications and unnecessary delays in treatment and diagnostic procedures.

Patients benefit tremendously from having a hospitalist care for them while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists can provide more timely care and make quicker decisions because they are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They can modify treatment or follow up on a test result on the spot instead of waiting until the next day. And hospitalists can consult with the patient's family more readily. Studies have proven that patients treated by hospitalists have shorter stays and spend less money on treatment compared with patients treated by non-hospitalist doctors.
