Strong H.E.A.R.T.S. Community Outreach Program

In response to the statewide need to address heart disease, Baptist DeSoto established its Strong HEARTS initiative to educate residents about preventing heart disease and responding properly when symptoms present. The Strong H.E.A.R.T.S. initiative was developed to brand cardiac services at the hospital through:

Healing patients with cardiac disease through special cardiac-related services within the hospital

Strong H.E.A.R.T.S. Community Outreach Program - Educating

Educating the community on preventive measures like free classes for diabetes management, smoking cessation, nutritional counseling and stroke support

Strong H.E.A.R.T.S. Community Outreach Program - Advancing

Advancing cardiac care through technology such as cardiac-related clinical trials and advanced emergency STEMI protocols that beat national standards for cardiac emergency response by an average of 30 minutes

Strong H.E.A.R.T.S. Community Outreach Program - Reaching

Reaching the outlying rural communities by offering free heart risk assessments including blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and BMI checks conveniently in those communities

Strong H.E.A.R.T.S. Community Outreach Program - Telling

Strong H.E.A.R.T.S. Community Outreach Program - Serving

Serving those in need through partnerships with local schools, civic organizations and not-for-profit organizations with the same mission to attack heart disease everywhere

The Strong HEARTS initiative has helped Baptist DeSoto receive the prestigious Chest Pain Accreditation.

We also established several annual outreach efforts, including a physicians' conference that attracted 39 physicians, 27 nurse practitioners, and 15 clinical professionals all concerned about the heart disease issue in North Mississippi. The hospital also established its first annual free community-wide Heart Healthy Health Fair, which attracted more than 300 residents by offering free heart risk assessments, heart-healthy cooking demonstrations, physical activities with free take-home exercise bands, and an up-close Q & A time with cardiologists from Stern Cardiovascular Foundation.
